Welcome to the MicroGiving Project!

The 'MicroGiving Project' is an informal group of Long Beach, California based
friends working to make a difference in our community through small creative
individual philanthropic endeavors that instantly and directly impact the lives
of those in need.

On the last Thursday of each month, members meet over dinner to proudly reveal
what innovative ways they have helped people during the previous month.

Here's How It Works:

For a period of not less than eighteen month, each of our members commits one-hundred dollars from their personal
finances and, as importantly, their creativity and talent to do something good for an individual, family or other group
once each and every month.

The primary rule being that members MUST do something with their time, talent, and creativity as well as that
one hundred dollars -- members simply can NOT give the money away and be done with it.

Some of our members have purchased and distributed fresh new crew socks to homeless people living in local parks
trying to stay warm and dry during winter months.

Others have bought and planted trees, shurbs, and flowers in once barren sidewalk planters and street medians to help
beautify their neighborhoods.

And some have invested in cleaning and painting supplies to remove and paint over 'tagging' that was done to an elderly
neighbor's garage.

The point is not to throw money at a problem and wait for someone to do something, but for you to use a little bit of
what you have and for you to do something to help someone or some group in your community.

Sound Like Something You'd Be Interested In?

At any given time there are eight to twelve of us doing what we do and while we know our numbers are small, keeping it
small is exactly what makes it work as well as it does. With such an intimate group, we are able to ensure that everyone's
voice is heard at our monthly dinner check-ins and such a small groups allows for often stimulating conversations while
also nuturing new ideas and ocassional collaboration among members.

Our groups dynamic is first and foremost that of friends and colleagues, though as the groups has evolved over the years,
not every member has known every other member as new members have been brought in ... though new members are
always introduced though an exisiting member of the group. This allows us to maintain that all important sense of affability
and comradery through common purpose among members.

So, if you are interested in possibly joining us and are will to commit one-hundred dollars per month, a few hours (or more)
each month of your time, talenty and creativity to help your community, and one evening each month to kibitz with like-
minded friends about your experience, then reach out to John Christian Hansen (our founder) by clicking his name.
